John Bryant Barker

John Bryant Barker born 22 May 1834 (twin brother, William) in Parke County, Indiana died in Cates, Fountain County 26 July 1896 when he drank rat poison (got it out of his grandfather clock in the middle of the night), thinking it was his medicine.
His wife, Annie Elizabeth Sowers was born 8 May 1839 in Rowan Co NC and died in Cates, 18 July 1922. They are both buried in Cooper's Chapel Cemetery. They raised seven children in Fountain County.

Veedersburg, Ind July 28 - Bryant Barker, who lives a few miles south of here, took a dose of arsenic, thinking it was quinine yesterday and died a few minutes afterward. Barker was a well-to-do citizen.

Bryant Barker who lives a few miles from Veedersburg took a dose of arsenic thinking it was quinine. He died a few minutes afterward in great agony. It is said that Bryant had medicine (for him) and arsenic (for the mice) in his grandfather clock in the middle of the night, he needed his medicine and got the wrong stuff.
