I remember going to Buzz & Helen's often as a child -- it was so nice to play with "girls' instead of the twin brothers all the time. I always thought Helen was one of the most beautiful people, inside and out I'd ever met. kz

Mrs. Helen Louise Barker, 38, wife of Democrat State Rep. Austin (Buzz) Barker, died unexpectedly at 7:20 a.m. Sun. at St. Elizabeth in Danville, Ill following Surgery Sat. a.m. She had entered the hospital Thurs. The family reisdes at 128 Suzie Lane. B. Oct 29, 1929 near Danville, she was the daughter of Lem & Fern Swisher. She was married in Veedersburg Sept 9, 1949 to Mr. Barker. Mrs. Barker had worked with her husand at Barker Motors, the Chrysler-Plymouth dealership which they attained in 1955. She was a memer of the Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxilary in Attica. She was also a member of the Attica Methodist Church. Surviving are the husband; two daus, Sondra Lynn and Sharon Kay, both at home; her mother of Danville; two brothrs, Robert of Homer, Ill and Harlan serving with the US Marine Corps in Vietnam and a sister, Mrs. Mary Gray of Danville.

Attica, Ind. (CNS) — Mrs. Helen Louise Barker, 37, wife of Austin (Buzz) Barker, who is entering his third term as state representative for Fountain, Warren and Vermillion Counties, died at 6:10 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 20, 1966) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. She had been a patient at the hospital since Thursday and underwent surgery Saturday morning. A resident of 128 Suzie Lane, she was married to Barker near Veedersburg on Sept. 9, 1949. She was born near Danville on Oct. 28, 1929, a daughter of Lem and Fern Swisher of Danville. Mrs. Barker is survived by her husband and her mother, Mrs. Fern Swisher. Also surviving are two daughters, Sondra Lynn and Sharon Kay; two brothers, Robert Swisher of Homer, Ill. and Harlan stationed in Viet Nam with the Marine Corps, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Gray of Danville. Barker, owner of the Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge agency in Attica since 1955, was assisted by Mrs. Barker in his business for several years prior to her death. She was a member of the Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the DeSutter Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Attica. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Tuesday. The family requests that memorials be made to the Community Hospital.
