Grover Cleveland Barker, 84, died Sun. afternoon in Bowles Convalescent home after being ill for 2 weeks. Barker, known as "Cleve", was born Dec. 30, 1885, son of Joseph and Elzada Gooding Barker. he marr. Harriet Shinneman. He was formerly employed by the Montgomery Co. Sale Pavilion. He is survived by a daughter, Cleo Elizabeth Woodsmall, Danville, Ill; a brother, Lloyd Barker, LaPorte and a sister, Goldie Duaghtery, Muncie. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wed. at Hunt & Son Fun. home and burial in Coopers Chapel Cem. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
[Note: I remember going to Crawfordsville as a young girl with my aunt, mom or grandmother and we would see a cute little old man sitting on the courthouse steps talking to a bunch of other old fellows. Whoever I was with would always say, "There's old Clevie" He had a long white beard and was a skinny, cute little fellar' (Karen Bazzani Zach)]
