Clay I. Barker, 74 of Covington died at 3:15 a.m. Monday Dec 14, 1970 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville. He had been a patient there since last Mar and had been seriously ill a month. Born Aug 7, 1896 in Parke Co he was the s/o Bayless and Jane Riley Barker. He was married in Oct 1917 to Miranda Dewlin who died in 1959. Mr. Barker had resided in the Covington and Cates communities most of her life and had been a farmer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 291. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis McCord, two brothers, Gerald and Vaughn; a sister, Mrs. Harry Youngblood; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. EST Wed. at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. PJ Hamilton will officiate. The Hegg Funeral Home will be in charge.
