Robert Dwayne Barfell, 45, of, 5401 N. Carrollton Ave., Indianapolis, a former Attica resident, d ed Saturday (Jan. 30, 1971) at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. He had been ill since October. Born in Attica, April, 19, 1925, he was the son of Robert Leroy and Inex Smith Barfell. He spent most of his early life in Attica and attended Attica schools. He entered military service at age 17 and completed his education while in service. He was a staff sergeant in the Army, retiring Nov. 1, 1970. He served 22 years in Germany and France. He married Tamara Gutzki at Basel, Switzerland, Dec. 5, 1961. He was a member of the VFW. Survivors include his widow; a son, Dwayne of Indianapolis; his mother of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Ed of Indianapolis, Don of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Darvin of Chicago; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Wilkinson and Mrs. Joan Mildenbergen, both of Chicago, Mrs. Jean Kirschenlohr, of Neptune City, N.J., and Mrs. Mary Ellen Malley of Chicago; a step-brother, Michael Helish of Indianapolis; and two step-sisters, Miss Virginia Helish and Mrs. Joan Julion, both of Indianapolis. Services Tuesday at the DeSutter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Bachert officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, with Military rites by the VFW Post of Attica.
