Newport -- John C. Barclay, age 55, of Benton, Mich., a former resident of Newport, brother of Mrs. Helen Baldwin of Covington Rt. 2, died Friday, April 19 at his home in Michigan. Born Feb. 28, 1908, in Danville, he was the son of Clarence and Nancy Elliott Barclay. He was married to Genieva Holtsclaw of Newport, who survives. He and his wife had operated a restaurant in Newport for several years. Other survivors include a son, Larry of Goodrich, Mich.; a daughter, Marian Lee Barclay of Detroit; three brothers, Frank of Newport, Robert of San Antonio, Tex., and Fred of Springfield, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Dove of Cayuga, Mrs. Helen Baldwin of Covington and Mrs. Alice Meeker of Terre Haute; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Newport Methodist Church. Burial was in Thomas Cemetery with the Watson Funeral Home in charge.
