Miss Elizabeth C. Banta, age 52, a former Covington resident and sister of James J. Banta of Covington, died unexpectedly in her apartment at 611 N. Pennsylvania, Indianapolis, early Thursday, Jan. 28. She had been ill two years but had worked until Wednesday. Miss Banta was born July 3, 1912, in Veedersburg, the daughter of Ambrose and Martha Elizabeth Sanders Banta. She was a 1930 graduate of Covington High School and attended business school in Indianapolis. She had resided in Indianapolis 32 years, where she was first employed as a secretary in the office of John Conley in the state house. She later was a secretary to Attorney Robert Loser and was last employed in the office of Dr. M. H. Lashmet. She was a member of Troy Chapter 145, Order of Eastern Star in Covington and of the First Presbyterian Church of Covington. She had been a Gray Lady in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis for 20 years and had received the Rose Sussman award for outstanding service. Surviving are: two brothers, James J. of Covington and Fremont in California, and one sister, Miss Aileen Banta of New Castle. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Flanner & Buchanan Fall Creek Funeral Home in Indianapolis. The body was brought to the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington where services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. James Nealy officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Taylor, James J. Banta, Louis Henderson, Russell Dunlap, Goble Manning and Floyd Cade.
