Miss Valetta Gertrude Ballah, age 82, a resident of Covington Rt. 2 for many years, died at 2:10 p. m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Rudisill Nursing Home here. She had been ill since May 30. Miss Ballah was born Sept. 30, 1884 in Vermillion County, Ind., the daughter of Amos and Margaret Oliphant Ballah. She was a life resident of Warren County and had taught in the rural schools of that county for many years. The last six years of her teaching career were in the Sterling Grade School, east of Veedersburg. She had attended Miss Olive Coffeen's Normal School in Covington. She was a member of the Benson Chapel Methodist Church and its WSCS. She had served as treasurer of the church for 36 years and for many years she had taken care of the records of Upper Mound Cemetery. She had never married. Miss Ballah is survived by one brother, Edward Ballah, Danville, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Lena Murrin, Veedersburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home where friends may call after 3 o'clock this afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon (EST) at the Benson Chapel Church where the body will lie in state an hour. Burial will be in Upper Mound Cemetery, just west of Covington.
