Melvin K. Bales, 66, 1502 Rosewood Lane died at 7 pm. Sunday (May 30) in Culver Hospital. He had been in ill health. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. He was a retired farmer and employee of United Tractor Sales and was a member of the Linden Masonic Lodge 697 F&AM and had served as a past master. He also held memberships in the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis and Farm Bureau. He was graduated from Newtown schools and moved to Montgomery County in 1942. Born Feb 15, 1916 in Fountain County, he was a son of Jasper N. and Naomi Abolt Bales. He married Vivian Dickison of Alvin Ill at Kentland. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Marjorie McMillan, of Crawfordsville; a granddaughter, Anna McMillan; a grandson, Mark Schaeffer of South Bend; a brother, Vernon; an aunt, Oveta Smith of Mellott and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and grandson. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev JP Friend officiating. Interment in Oak Hill Mausoleum. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday by Linden Lodge 697. - kbz

Melvin K. Bales of Crawfordsville, age 66, died Sunday evening, May 30, in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. He was born in Fountain County, February 15, 1916, the son of Jasper N. and Naoma Abolt Bales. He was married to Vivian Dickison, who survives. Bales was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Crawfordsville, Linden Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Scottish Rite and Farm Bureau Co-op. He was a retired Farmer and employee of United Tractor Sales.
Also surviving are a daughter, Marjorie McMillan of Crawfordsville; a brother, Vernon; an aunt, Oveta Smith of Mellott; a granddaughter, Anna McMillan of Crawfordsville; and a grandson, Mark Schaeffer of South Bend.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) at Hunt and Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville with Rev. J. P. Friend officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Mausoleum at Crawfordsville. – thanks to S
