The subject of this sketch, Guy Glenwood Bales only son of Harvey H. Bales and Martha Roberts Bales was b. Feb 4, 1895 in Kingman, In. At age 14 months his father died of lagrippe at Knoxville, Tenn leaving him in the care of a devoted mother. Guy lived his entire life in Kingman where he attended the common and high school with two years at Terre Haute Normal. He then entered business which he continued until he enlisted on Jan 14, 1918. He went overseas Aug 30, 1918 in 828 Aero Squadron from NY to Glascow, Scotland. From there he went to Winchester, England then to LaTracy,, France and other places, finally arriving at Romorantin, France where he contracted pneumonia within a few days and died Nov 27, 1918. He wrote that he had lived a good life while in the army and was coming back a better man than he was when he went away it being one of his greatest desires to come home just as soon as possible.
