Mrs. Katherine Baldwin, age 83, life-resident of the Covington Community, died at 4 'clock Thursday afternoon, May 2, at her home on Third Street. She had been ill since Feb. 18, when she suffered a stroke. Mrs. Baldwin was born in Covington in 1873, the daughter of Joseph and Rhoda Ellen Barkley. She spent her entire life in the vicinity of Covington and early became a member of the local Christian Church. In May, 1889, she was married to James W. Baldwin, who was a teacher in Fountain County and surrounding schools. Eight children were born to this marriage, two of whom died in early childhood. Mr. Baldwin preceded her in death in February 1941. Surviving are: two sons, Malcolm of Covington and Lowell of Attica; four daughters, Mrs. Ruth Hayden and Mrs. Roberta Howard, both of Covington, Mrs. Homer Stomm of South Bend and Mrs. Genevieve Elgin of Danville, Ill.; two brothers, Charles Barkley of Covington and Joseph Barkley of Inkster, Mich., 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at the Hegg Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Gerald Durre, pastor of the First Church of Christ, officiated and burial was in Prescott Cemetery.
