Hillsboro July 27 – Death followed a five weeks’ serious illness for Franklin P. Bailey, 89, a life-time resident of this community and former employee of the Big 4 Railway at 8 p.m. Monday at his home here. Born near Hillsboro April 4, 1854, he was the son of Thomas and Sarah Bayler Bailey. His wife, Carrie Tucker Bailey to whom he was married in 188 and one daughter preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Earl Knox and Miss Betty Bailey, both residing in Hillsboro with their father; a granddaughter; one great grandson; a sister, Mrs. Kizzie Bromley of Indianapolis and a brother, William of Hillsboro. Bailey was recently awarded a 50-year membership pin of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hillsboro Christian Church. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery with Crumley & Son in charge. - kbz

Hillsboro July 27 - Franklin P. Bailey, age 89, one of the oldest residents of this community died at his home here Monday night at 8 o'clock after having been seriously ill for the past 5 weeks. Infirmities of his advanced age caused his death. He had been in declining health for the past year. Mr. Bailey was born near Hillsboro on April 4, 1854 the son of Thomas and Sarah Gayder Bailey and in 1888 he was married to Carrie Tucker, who preceded him in death with an infant daughter. Mr. Bailey was employed for a number of years as section worker on the Big Four railroad. He was a member of the Hillsboro Knights of Pythias Lodge and only recently received his 50-year membership pin. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bea Knox and Miss Betty Bailey, both at home; a granddaughter, Mrs. Jean Wood and a great grandson. A sister, Mrs. Lizzie Bromley of Indianapolis and a brother, William Bailey of Hillsboro also survive. The funeral will be held from the Hillsboro Christian Church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with burial in the Waynetown Masonic cemetery. The casket will not be opened at the church. Friends may pay their respects at the late home until time for the funeral. - kbz
