Funeral services for Neuman Cleveland Auter, age 77, retired farmer of the Covington Rt. 3 area, who died at 5:50 p. m. Friday, Feb. 1, in Lakeview Memorial Hospital in Danville, were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the First Baptist Church here. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor officiated and burial, with Bodine & Shelby in charge, was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Auter had been in failing health for the past two years and a patient in the hospital since Jan. 2. He was born in Fountain County Nov. 15, 1885, the son of Clinton and Emma Kemp Auter. He was married Sept. 6, 1911 to Eula A. Peters, who survives. He had been employed as a Prudential Insurance agent in the Covington area for 10 years and in earlier life had worked at the Danville brickyard. He had been a resident of Danville 25 years prior to moving to a farm east of Covington in 1943. He retired from farming in 1958. Mr. Auter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Covington. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: one daughter, Mary Emma Auter, and three sons, Arthur Ray, Neuman C. Jr., and Harold W., all of Danville, Ill.; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Young of Covington. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and an infant son. Pallbearers were: Frank, Gene and Eddie Auter, Russell Browning, Lawrence H. Peters and William Grubb, Jr.
