Covington - Ingold "Bunch" Auter, 77, a lifelong resident of Fountain County and a resident of Covington and the community here since 1933, was found dead in the machine shop in Covington City Park at 10 am. Thursday. Fountain County coroner Robert B. Shelby ruled that he had taken his own life by hanging. Death had occurred about 8:30 a.m. The body was found by Mrs. Eula Auter, a relative who made her home with Mr. Auter at the park where he had served as caretaker for the past four years. It was reported that Mr. Auter had been despondent for some time. Born in Shawnee Township, Fountain County, he was married to Mabel Blanche Riffle in 1911. She died in 1967. He was a member of the United Church of Christ of Mellott. He had been a farmer and was a former employee of the Covington Grain Elevator Company before taking the job at the city park. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Cooper and Mrs. Vivian Claypool, both of Mellott; Mrs. Jean Warrick of Covington and Mrs. Sue Smith of Byron, Ill; and two sons, IJ Auter of Veedersburg and Harold W of Watseka, Ill.
