Mrs. Lora Arnold, found guilty last December in the circuit court of Fountain County on the charge of attempting to kill her husband by placing poison in his pie, committed suicide shortly before 4 o’clock Saturday morning by swallowing carbolic acid.  Mrs. Arnold ended her life at the home of her husband, from whom she had been separated for some time, but had returned to him Friday evening.  Mrs. Arnold retired about 10 o’clock Friday night, sleeping on a couch in the living room.  Mr. Arnold, who occupied a bed in an adjoining room heard an unusual noise shortly before 4 o’clock Saturday morning and upon making an investigation found his wife on the floor, having taken carbolic acid.  Dr. AC Holley was hurriedly summoned and when he arrived at the home asked that Dr. AR Kerr also be called.  Before Dr. Kerr reached the home Mrs. Arnold had passed away. She left no letter or gave no reasons for her rash act, but she is said to have been despondent of late and had threatened to take her own life. Mrs. Arnold and William Layton were both convicted in the “poison pie case,” the woman being sentenced to the woman’s prison at Indianapolis and Layton to the state prison but sentence was suspended.  Layton still resided in Attica. – kbz
