William J. Applegate, 62, a life resident of Fountain County died at his home west of Newtown and 7 a.m. Sunday March 20 following a heart attack. He was born near Hillsboro July 11, 1892 the son of James H. and Rosa Hushaw Applegate. On June 3, 1915 he was married to Hazel J. Marlatt who survives with two sons, Robert and Harold, both of Attica rural route. He also leaves a half sister, Mrs. Mabel McKnight of Newtown. He was a member of the Beulah Presbyterian Church. Funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the family home with burial in Rockfield cemetery. – kbz

Mrs. May Atkinson, 73, died at her home southeast of Kingman Thursday Nov 5 at 10:45 p.m. Mrs. Atkinson was born in Parke County, Ind Nov 15, 1879 daughter of Willard and Laura Swank Thompson. She was married to Milton Atkinson who preceded her in death in 1924. She was a member of the Kingman Christian Church and the Mary C. Smith Tent No 35, Daughters of Union Veterans. Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Waneta Jones of West Lebanon; Mrs. Ruby Warburton of Danville, Ill; Mrs. Mary Lankton of Jackson, Mich and Mrs. Mildred Fisher of Detroit, Mich; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Sybil Meyers of Waynetown; a son, Charles at home; a stepson, Elmer Atkinson of Veedersburg rural route; a sister, Mrs. Ada Best of Kingman; three brothers, John and Clarence Thompson of Frankfort, Ind and Pearl Thompson of Crawfordsville; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services were Sunday afternoon with burial in the Centennial Cemetery. – kbz
