Lebanon—William “Bill” L. Alward, 67, Lebanon, died Monday, Jan. 2, 1989, in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, after being a patient there nine days. He had been ill for the past 11 months.

  He was born May 31, 1921, at Wallace, the son of Arthur and Celia Zackmire Alward. He was married June 22, 1969, at Lebanon, to Mildred J. Johnson, who survives.

  He was reared and educated at Wallace. He moved with his family to Lebanon in 1933 and returned there after the war.
  He worked as a machinist for Allsion’s for 25 years before retiring in 1972. He had previously worked as a truck driver. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in South America and the Atlantic.

  He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Allison’s Camping Club and Lebanon Senior Citizens. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Good Sams and the First United Church of Christ at Lebanon.

  Surviving besides his wife, are two sons, Rodney D. Deuel, Indianapolis, and John W. Hoven, Niles, Mich.; five daughters, Sandra Addler, Barbara Twitty and Mrs. Mike (Roxanna) Henry, all of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Jack (Elaine) Gardner, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Tom (Glenna) L. Whitworth, Lexington, Tenn.; 26 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a brother and a sister.

  Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in Myers Mortuary, Lebanon, with the Rev. Verlin Smith officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
