Paul Russell Alward, 60, died suddenly at his home at 1206 W. Market Street at 3:30 a.m. Thursday. He had been a resident in the city the past 7 years. A native of Wallace, Mr. Alward was born there Nov 2, 1905, the son of Bert E. and Dora Booe Alward. On Sept 24, 1932, he married Betty T. Timmons in Crawfordsville. Mr. Alward was a graduate of West Virginia Polytech and taught at Oglethorpe University. He did graduate work at Purdue. He taught for a time in Putnam County. At the time of his death, he was vice president of the Carpenters District Council of Central and Western Indiana, an affiliate of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He was also sec-treas of the union's welfare fund and one of the trustees of the fund. Prior to moving to Crawfordsville, Mr. Alward and his family had resided in South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart, Lafayette and Greencastle. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of West Lafayette. Survivors include the widow; a son, Paul H. Alward of Greencastle; two grandchildren, Linda and Paul Alward; a sister, Mrs. Charles B. Isbell of Elkhart and a stepmother, Mrs. Charlotta S. Alward of Kingman. An aunt and uncle survive. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Bright Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, Rev. Ralph Moore Jones will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery. -- kbz

Funeral services for Paul Russell Alward were held Monday afternoon at the Bright Funeral Home, Rev. Ralph Moore Jones, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiated. Serving as pallbearers and assisting with the flowers were Don Stump of Lebanon, Lester Ruark and Glenn Woodrum of Greencastle, Lee M. Stadtmiller of McCordsville, Frank Holeman of Indianapolis and Fred E. Radcliffe of Crawfordsville. Curtis E Bright played requested organ selections. Burial was made in Masonic Cemetery.
