Attica, Ind. - An Attica man was found drowned Thursday in the Wabash River here. A deputy coroner rules a drowning death of Edwin Allhands, about 50, whose body was found wedged in the fork of a tree along the river edge. Attica – The body of Edwin LaDuke Allhands, 54, was found floating in the flood-swollen Wabash River here about 3:20 p.m. Thursday. His death apparently was due to drowning but Fountain county coroner Dale Maus has made no official ruling. The victim was last seen about 10:30 a.m. Thursday after leaving the residence of his stepmother, Mrs. Plez Allhands, 411 E Pike St with whom he resided. He had been in ill health about six months and was under medication, Maus reported. Allhands’ body was lodged against a tree about 50’ of the Paul Dresser Bridge (US 41). It was discovered by Thursman Edwards, 19 of 401 S Brady St who was walking along the river bank. He notified Attica police and fire department equipment was used to reach the body about 25’ from the shore; Mr. Allhands was a sign painter and employed at Carl’s Pool Room. He was born near Newtown graduated in 1934 from Attica HS and a member if First United Methodist Church. Surviving with his stepmother are a half-brother, Jack Allhands of Attica and two sisters Mrs. Helen Prekert and of Attica and Mrs. Leona Weilage of Jeffersonville.
