Sherman O. ALLEN 79 a Cates area resident died at 10:27 p.m. Saturday in Culver Union Hospital, Crawfordsville. Mr. Allen was a farmer and hauled lime all of his life, retiring in 1979. He had lived in Fountain County all his life and in the Cates are since 1947. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He attended Centennial community Church. He was born Oct 8, 1917 in Fountain County to Cleveland Jessie Ola Miller Allen. He married Betty PHILPOTT August 23, 1941 at Veedersburg. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Diane Allen of Covington; 3 sisters, Mrs. Lowell (Lorene) RILEY of Veedersburg; and Mrs. Norman (Oveta) CLEM and Patricia GUYER both of Covington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Schuyler; a sister, Lois Dillon and a grandson, Richard Allen. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wed in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Rev. Carl Stetler offic. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
