The grim reaper death, has taken from us, one of our most highly respected citizens, Omer Allen, son of Cornelius and Harriet Sowers Allen. He was born in Parke County Ind July 13, 1881 and passed away Jan 29, 1951 at age 69 years, six months 16 days. On December 22, 1909 at the age of 28 years, he was united in marriage to Opal Myers. Eight children were given to this union, namely Loren, of RFD 4, Crawfordsville; Juanita Andrews of Clinton; Darrell and Glen of Wingate; Evelyn Pirtle of Clinton, Lois Patton RFD 4, Crawfordsville and Hazel and Barbara, at home. His early married life was spent in Parke County. In 1928, he moved to Montgomery County where he spent the remainder of his life. Farming was his occupation. His entire life was spent on the farm. The writer remembers him when a schoolboy, always happy, considerate of others and obedient. These characteristics stayed with him all through life and these coupled with hard toil, honesty, and truthfulness, endeared him to the hearts of all who knew him. a good neighbor, loving husband, patient and understanding father, a true and loyal friend has been called to his heavenly home. Besides the widow, 8 children, three brothers, three sisters, 9 grandchildren, other relatives and many friends are left to mourn: We feel and will say, he is not dead - only away - waiting for that joyful day, when parting from his loved ones will be no more, On eternity's bright & golden shore!
