ALLEN, Ida Wendall - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

WAYNETOWN -- Mrs. Ida Jane Allen, age 72, died at noon Monday, Jan. 27, at the home of a son, D. W. Allen, at Shadeland on Lafayette Rt. 1. She had been ill six months. Mrs. Allen was born Dec. 30, 1891, in Parke County, the daughter of Henry and Julia Hendricks Wendall. She was married April 4, 1912, at Rockville to Ethan Allen, who survives and resides on Crawfordsville Rt. 1. Until her illness, she had resided 22 years in the Garfield community and had formerly resided at Attica, Newtown, Wingate and Wallace. She had attended Weasel Pete School in Parke County. She was a member of the Smartsburg Christian Church and Smartsburg Home Demonstration Club. Surviving, in addition to her husband and son, are: two brothers, William Wendall of Stone Bluff and Lon of Crawfordsville; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Wallace of California, Mrs. Marie Whitsell of Bloomington, Ill., Mrs. Belle Glick of Paris, Ill., and Mrs. Opal Hurst of Chrisman, Ill.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 29, at the Servies Funeral Home here. The Rev. John R. Servies officiated and burial was in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Mrs. Ida Allen Succumbs At 72; Rites Wednesday- Mrs. Ida Jane Allen, 72, died at noon Monday at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Allen, of Rt. 8, Lafayette. She had been in failing health about six months. Born Dec. 30, 1891 in Parke County, she was a daughter of Henry and Julia Hendricks Wendall. She married Ethan Allen April 4, 1912. They were married at Rockville. Mrs. Allen resided in the Garfield community 22 years. Prior to that she had lived at Attica, Newtown, Wingate and Wallace. She attended the Weasel Pete School in Parke County and was a member of the Smartsburg Home Demonstration Club, Christian Church and Ladies Aid Society of the Church. Survivors include the son at whose home she died; her husband, who resides on Rt. 1, Crawfordsville; two brothers, William Wendall of Stone Bluff and Lon Wendall of Rt. 7, Crawfordsville; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Wallage of California, Mrs. Marie Whitesell of Bloomington, Ill., Mrs. Belle Glick of Paris, Ill. and Mrs. Opal Hurst of Chrisman, Ill.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. John R. Servies officiating. Interment will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
