Funeral services for Herman "Pete" Allen, 72, Perrysville resident, who died at 9:50 a.m. Thursday June 28 at his home, were held Saturday afternoon at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. Mr. Allen, who was born November 1, 1889 in cates, the son of Thomas and Melissa Jane Newnum Allen, had been in ill health for the past year and a half. He was seriously ill one month. Mr. Allen was a life reisdent of Fountain and Vermillion counties and had never married. In WWII he served as a private with the 29th Division of the US infantry from March 28, 1919 until June 3, 1919. He was a farmer and carpenter. Mr. Allen was a member of Walter Hoyt Post 350 American Legion of Perrsyville and Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Covington. He is survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Opha Cates, Everett (Bob Allen) and Mrs. Minnie Perry all of Kingman Rt 1, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. The Rev. Burnley Spencer officiated at his final rites and burial was in Cooper Chapel Cemetery southeast of Covington. Military services were conducted at the graveside by the Walter Hoyt Post 350 and Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395. Pallbearers were: Clarence Wilson, Russell Wilson, Herschel Allen, Hardy Allen, Leon Perry and Ralph Perry.
