Mr. Gordon M. Allen, 95, Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 while a resident of The Forum at The Crossing in Indianapolis where he made many close friends among the residents and staff. Mr. Allen was born on Dec. 10, 1921 at Wallace, the son of Frank F. and Sarah (nee: Foster) Allen. He then graduated from Crawfordsville High School and received his BA in Business from Indiana University, Bloomington in just three years before joining the US Army and serving in the Army Air Force in WWII. During his military service he survived when his plane was shot down over Germany and he was held as a POW for 13 months. He married Betty Jean Cox on Jan. 24, 1944 and they raised two sons and lived in Indianapolis for many years. Mr. Allen worked as a self-employed Certified Public Accountant and was very active in his community as a 50 + year member of the Masonic Lodge #319, Scottish Rite, the Murat Shrine and the Eastern star. He was also a longtime member of the Northside Optimist Club where he served as an officer. Survivors include sons, Stephen (Marilyn) Allen of Liberty and Warren Allen of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Allen and his wife, Betty Allen. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Shoemaker Funeral Home in Waynetown with the Rev. Kevin Howey officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects an hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with military honors. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital Burn Care, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229 or the Folds of Honor Foundation, 8551 N. 125th E. Ave., Owassa, OK, 74055 for military family scholarships.
