COVINGTON — Gladys Elaine (Cole)
Allen, 86, died at 8:27 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 in St. Vincent
Williamsport Hospital after a long illness. She was born Oct. 10, 1919, the
youngest daughter of John Henderson and Lily Ellen (Adam) Cole on a farm west of
Perrysville. She married Lewis Perl Allen Feb. 11, 1939 in Montezuma. He
preceded in death July 15, 1977. She was a member of Coopers Chapel Church and
attended regularly until her illness. She had been involved with the Coopers
Missionary Group and the Wabash Township Birthday Club. She was a wonderful
mother who loved gardening, birds, reading and writing poetry. Above all she
was a sweet, soft-spoken mother who dedicated her life to her Lord and her
family. Survivors include: five sons, Lewis Michael (Velma) Allen, Covington,
Kenneth Wayne Allen, Muncie, and Richard Douglas (Judy) Allen and Kevin Glenn
Allen, both of Covington; two daughters, Susie (Joe) Taylor and Myrna Lee
(Frank) Hise, both of Covington; a special daughter-in-law, Faye (Don) Watson, rural
Fairmount, Ill.; a sister, Ima Lee Delp, Rockville; 21 grandchildren; 27
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded
in death by her beloved son, Ira Doyne Allen; four brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington,
with Pastor Kyle Allen and Donald Hesler officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope
Cemetery, Covington. Memorials requested to American Lung Association with
envelopes available at the funeral home. –
