Ernest C. Allen, 87, of Linden died at 4 a.m. in Murdock Manor Nursing Home at Lafayette where he had been a patient since June. He had been ill and in other nursing homes for the past 10 years. He had lived at Linden since 1935 and prior to that in West Lebanon and Alvin, Illinois. He attended Fountain County schools. Mr. Allen owned a restaurant at Linden from 1959-66 and also worked for Tipmont REMC at Linden until retiring in 1968. He was a member of Linden United Methodist Church, Linden Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 244 and Scottish Rite. He was born in Fountain County on Sept 3 1903 to Elijah and Mary Catherine Zackmire Allen. He married Elsie McDonald at Covington in 1930. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Don (Louise) Fugate of Linden, a brother Harleigh of Albquerque, NM; a sister Bonita Cleland of Van Nuys, Calif; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services are scheduled fof 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hahn Chapel at Linden with the Rev. Richard Rhoads officiating. burial will be in Linden Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30.
