Mrs. Elsie Allen, 83, who last resided at the Grier-Lincoln Hotel, died at 12:35 a.m. today (Oct. 11, 1967) in St. Elizabeth Hospital where she had been a patient nine days. She had been in ill health several months. Born Feb. 26, 1884, in Oakwood, she was a daughter of Morgan and Julia Trimble Oakwood. The town of Oakwood was named for her grandfather. She was married in Oakwood to Fred Allen. They came to Danville in 1933 and for several years resided at 502 Ann. Surviving from her first marriage are a grandson, Karrell Stevens of Juarez, Mexico, and two great-granddaughters. Also surviving are a step-daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Hodges of Danville; a step-son, Richard Allen of Tuscola, and a sister, Mrs. Glee Shipp of Mrs. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Oakwood Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday at the Pape Memorial Home. The Rev. Jack Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
