COVINGTON, Ind. – A Covington man was killed Saturday afternoon when he was struck on the head by a dead tree while working on his father's Covington Route 3 farm. Killed was Doyne Allen, 28, Covington Route 1. He and his father, Lewis, had finished sawing a tree which was supporting a dead tree. Both trees fell, but the dead tree remained partially supported momentarily, leading them to believe it had fallen. Seconds later, the butt end of the dead tree gave way, striking Allen. He married Faye Laughter Feb. 3, 1968. She survives. Also surviving are two children, Joey and Lisa, both at home; four brothers, Michael of Covington Route 1, Kenneth Wayne of Hagerstown, Ind., Route 1, and Douglas and Kevin, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Sue Taylor, Covington Route 2, and Miss Myrna Allen, a student at Ball State University in Muncie. He was a life resident of Wabash Township, graduating from Perrysville High in 1959. He served four years in the Air Force, reaching the rank of Airman First Class.
