Covington, Ind -- Archie Lawrence Allen, 77 of 722 Washington, Covington, Ind, died at 7:30 a.m. today (Aug 3, 1974) at his home. He had been ill 10 years. Born March 30, 1897, he was the son of Frank and Clara Richardson Allen. On July 28, 1923, he married Violet Jones, who survives. He had been a miner for many years and had been employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville for the past 15 years. Mr. Allen was an Army veteran of WWI. He was a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post, First Baptist Church and AFGE Lodge of Danville. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Betty) Sith, Mrs. Jack (Lorraine) Gerard, a son Jack L. Allen, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kelley and Mrs. Mildred Summers, two brothers, Melben Allen and Lewis Allen, all of Covington., five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at DeVerter Funeral Home. Burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday.

Covington - Funeral services were conducted today in DeVerter Funeral Home for Archie Lawrence Allen who died Saturday morning in his home here. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Allen had been employed for 15 years by the Veterans Administrations Hospital at Danville. Prior to service there he was a coal miner. He was a veteran of WWI. Mr. Allen was a member of Covington Masonic Lodge, American Legion and First Baptist Church and AFGE Lodge at Danville. A Fountain County native, he was born March 30, 1897, son of Frank and Clara Richardson Allen. He was married to Violet Jones on July 28, 1923. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Jack L; two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Betty) Smith and Mrs. Jack (Lorraine) Gerard, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kelley and Mrs. Mildres Summers; two brother, Melben Allen and Lewis Allen all of Covington; 5 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
