Thomas Mitchell Abernathy, 89, a life resident of Fountain County and retired farmer of the Cates community died Tuesday at the home of a grandson, Wayne Abernathy. He was born May 12, 1867 in Illinois, the son of Hubert and Nancy Cory Abernathy. He married Emma Richardson in 1877 and she preceded him in death in 1949. Surviving are a brother, Perly of Georgetown, Illinois, the grandson, Wayne, with whom he had lived since 1949 and one great-granddaughter. Services were held at the Bodine and Shelby funeral Home Thursday with the Rev. Glenn Ray officiating. Burial was in Snoddy Cemetery (really Coal Creek) (death Jan 22 1957.)
