Veedersburg -- Ora S. Abernathy, 86, of Rt 2, Veedersburg died June 16, 1994 at his home. Born March 26, 1908 in Wabash Township, the son of Lucky and Florence Keller, Abernathy married Ruby Lucille Riley September 19, 1933. She preceded him in death on January 20, 1989. He was a life resident of Wabash Township and served 8 years as Wabash Township Trustee and 28 years as a member of the Fountain County Council. He was a member of Cooper Chapel Church, Yeddo Lodge 636 F&AM and past master Yeddo Chapter #313 OES and past worthy patron, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Carpenter Local 859. He was a carpenter working on construction many years and also a farmer. Surviving are daughter, Letty (Curtis) Calder, Crawfordsville son Robb (Bonnie) Abernathy, Rt 1, Covington; 3 sisters, Irene Wittenmyer, Rockville; Helen Furr, Montezuma, Sylvia (Joe Coffing) Rt 2, Kingman; two brothers, Kenneth Abernathy Rt 1, Covington David Abernathy Rt 2, Veedesrburg; six grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Rev. James Ranard officiating. Burial was in Coopers Chapel Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Society.
