Covington -- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Abernathy, 81, of Covington, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday Oct 10 1972, at the Tall Trees Nursing Home. She had been a patient seven months and had been ill 10 months. Born July 28,1891 in Parke County, she was the daughter of Davis and Ida Haga Lawson.. She was married June 27 1914 to Harrison E. Abernathy, who died July 29 1953. A resident of Covington since 1943, she had been a former resident of Cates. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Helping Hand Class, Jolly 60 Club and Wabash Camp 6070 Royal Neighbors of America. Survivors include a sister Mrs. Bessie Allen of Covington; a brother Ivan Lawson of Perrysville Rt. 1, a granddaughter Miss Waynette Abernathy and several nieces of nephews. services were at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Moore officiating. Burial was in Coal Creek Cemetery south of Covington.
