Mrs. Mert B. Abell, age 81, a resident of Globe, Ariz., a native of Covington, died Friday, July 29, at the Gila General Hospital in Globe. She had been in ill health one year. Mrs. Abell was born in Covington, the daughter of Harve and Ida Barkley. She was married in 1930 to Al Abell, who survives. She was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to the husband, are: one sister, Mrs. Mabel E. Lloyd of Fairmount, Ill.; two nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ed Slaughter; three sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Covington, officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Mrs. Al Abell, 81, of Globe, Ariz., a former resident of Danville and Covington, Ind., died in a hospital there this morning (July 29, 1966). Born Nov. 29, 1884, she was a daughter of Harve and Ida Smith Barkley. She was married to Ed Slaughter of Danville, who preceded her in death in 1925. She later was married to Al Abell of Globe, who survives. She had taught school in Arizona for several years. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Mabel Lloyd of Catlin. She also was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. The body will be brought to the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington. Arrangements are incomplete.
