Portland Arch-  Gerald E. Zick, 73, of 2236 N. County Road 250 W, Covington which is Portland Arch, died Wednesday Dec 2 in Home Hospital in Lafayette. He had been in failing health for two years. Mr. Zick retired in 1987 as vice superintendent of the Fountain County Highway Department after working there for 27 years. Born in Stone Bluff on March 23, 1925 he lived in Fountain County all his life and in the Portland Arch area most of his life. He was raised in the Salem area near Covington and graduated from Covington HS. He married Ruby Ellen Lewis on May 6, 1946 in Lebanon. She died May 26, 1964. Mr. Zick attended the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Crawfordsville and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2395 of Covington and a former member of Knights of Pythias of Veedersburg. An Army Medical Corps veteran of WWII, he served in the South Pacific. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Zick and Everett Zick, both of Veedersburg; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Kay) Kelley of Stone Bluff and JoAnn Zick of West Lafayette. Services are Saturday in Attica. - kbz
