Alonzo G. Young, 86, died at 1:23 a.m. Monday, April 8, 1963, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He had been ill the past year.
Born April 21, 1876, near Attica in Fountain County, he was the son of John E. and Emma Ralston Young. He was married May 9, 1906, to Flora M. Mitchell, who survives.
Mr. Young started farming near Armstrong, Ill., and later moved to the community west of Covington. He helped form the Covington Sand & Gravel Co., in 1906 and served as secretary until 1926. He then returned to farming. He attended Benton Chapel Methodist Church and was a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Other survivors include a son, Harold of Covington Route 2; two brothers, Cleve and John, both of Covington Route 2, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Massey of Covington. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Bill Moon officiated with burial in Lower Mound Cemetery.
