COVINGTON – Sherman Yerkes, age 90, oldest member of Wabash Township in Fountain County, died in St, Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., Thursday morning, Oct. 2, where he had been a patient since Aug. 30. Mr. Yerkes was born May 22, 1879 in Wabash Township, the son of Barclay and Martha Marlatt Yerkes. He was married April 19, 1908 to Dessie Robb who preceded him in death May 30, 1960. He was a retired farmer. He attended the Wabash Chapel Church and was a charter member of the Fountain County Farm Bureau. Surviving are: two daughter, Mrs. Ruth Schiller of Jasper and Mrs. Lewis (Loraine) Simmons of Hammond; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home here. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated and burial was in Mt, Hope Cemetery, Covington. Serving as pallbearers were Robert Garrison, Raymond Martin, Ronald Crowder, Duane Martin, Charles Stoup and John Stoup. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Wait, Alva Young, Charles Shaw, Leroy Crowder, Clayton Martin and Clint Rhodes. – jlr
