ATTICA — Bertha M. Yarborough,
85, Attica, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006 in Woodland Manor
Nursing Center, Attica. She was born July 27, 1921 in Attica, the daughter of
George A. and Ruth (Cadwallader) Yarborough. She was raised in Attica graduating
from Attica High School in 1940. She lived in Attica most of her life, later
moving to Lafayette in March, 1983. She worked as a head grocery clerk for
Meihls; Grocery, Economy, A & P, Grab-It-Here and Kroger grocery stores for
38 years. She retired in 1978. She was a former member of the Attica First
United Methodist Church, where she financially donated the handicap lift for
the church. She was also responsible for her gift of the piano and light in
memory of her mother, Ruth Yarborough. After moving to Lafayette, she became a
member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the
Lafayette Business and Professional Women and a former member of the Rebecca
Lodge and Pythian Sisters Lodge. While living in Lafayette, she volunteered her
time by working at Home Hospital and for the American Red Cross, Lafayette
chapter. She also took her time taking night calls for the Red Cross Emergency
Services helping servicemen get home. There were no immediate survivors. She
was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen E. Johnson, Evelyn
E. Horn and Flora Alice Best; and a brother, Donald Yarborough. Funeral
services were at 1 p.m. Monday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with Pastor Ron
Mabry officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial
