Her parents were both born in Germany and married after coming to this country.
She was married to John R. Welch by Father King, at St. Joseph's Catholic parsonage, September 8, 1887, celebrating her golden wedding anniversary Sept. 8, 1937, a goal for her failing health seemed at times to be about to prevent her ever achieving, but in reaching of which she found great pleasure and received congratulations of hundreds of friends.
two Brothers, Jacob Hiigel, Covington and Francis Hiigel, Winfield,Kansas and a half brother, Wm. Hiigel, Lawrence, Kansas, have preceded her in death, and she is survived by her husband and a half brother, John H. Keller, of Covington.
Mr. and Mrs. Welch had no children of their own, but raised two nieces Josie Hiigel and Mary E. Keller, daughters of Wm. Hiigel and John H. Keller, respectively, half brothers of Mrs. Welch.
Josie Hiigel is married to Thomas Orr, and resides at Hiawasse, Arkansas;she has two sons, Robert and Walton, both grown to young manhood and married. Mary E. Keller still calls the Welch home her home and last Christmas gave up her employment in Indianapolis and returned to care for her Aunt until death relieved her of that duty she believed she owed the one who had sacrificed for her and the obligations she had so tirelessly and patiently fulfilled.
