Covington, Ind.—Darrell Austin Vyse, 79, a resident of Covington most of his life, died unexpectedly at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 1977 at his home in Covington.
Born September 17, 1898 in Putnam County, he was the son of William F. and Mary L. Deavers Vyse. He was married May 4, 1932, to Everel M. Clark, who survives.
Mr. Vyse was a former Covington police chief and had been a painting contractor for many years, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Fulton-Banta American Legion Post 291 and a former member of the Covington Chapter SPEBQSA (Barbershop quartet singing).
An army veteran of World War I, he later served in the Marines from 1919 to 1921.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Elva (Darene) Jones of Covington, Route 2, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) McBride and Mrs. David (Deloris) Hayden, both of Covington; three sons, Donald, Darrell A. Jr. and David, all of Covington; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was the last member of a family of 10 grandchildren.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert H. Miller officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 291.
