Russell Vester, 64, a former Attica resident died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1976 in Sartori Hospital, Cedar Falls, Iowa, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Vester had been a resident of Independence and Attica most of his life. He had resided in Cedar Falls since 1975. Born in Independence June 1, 1912, he was the son of Michael and Mary Meisenhelder Vester. Mr. Vester was a graduate of Attica High. He owned and operated the Vester Shoe Repair Shop in Attica for several years. Much of the equipment for his shop had been purchased from the editor of this paper and had been used by the editor’s father in such a shop at Dana many years ago. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Attica. Survivors include his stepmother, Mrs. Gertrude Vester of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Ernestine) Refshauge of Cedar Falls; a niece, Mrs. Larry (Mary Maas of Cedar Falls; a nephew, Dr. Charles Refshauge of Parkersburg, Va.; and three great nieces. Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Saturday at the Dale Maus Funeral Home, with the Rev. Melvin Mead officiating. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery, east of Green Hill. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Fri. at the funeral home.
