KINGMAN — Berneice Vaughan, 85,
of 427 W. State St. Kingman died at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at her
residence. She was born April 13, 1917 in Vermillion County to Richard
Cleveland and Lena Leota (Gouty) Hanna. She was married to Ralph E. Vaughan on
Nov. 19, 1932 in Danville, Ill. She was a cafeteria manager at Cates and
Covington schools for over 25 years and was employed at Attica REMC for ten
years. She also wrote for the Crawfordsville Journal Review and the Fountain
County Neighbor. She was a member of the Kingman United Methodist Church, a
former member of Cates (EUB) Community Church, North Millcreek Extension Club,
Kingman Seniors Citizen Club, Kingman NGO Club, Cates Church Missionary Women,
Kingman Extension Club, Kingman High School Band. She attended Perrysville High
School. She is survived by one son, Richard E. (wife: Sherry) Vaughan, and two
daughters, Alice Swaim and Martha (husband: Peyton) Morris. Also surviving is
one brother Harold (wife: Emily) Hanna. Also surviving are nine grandchildren:
Kim Dykes, Amy Dudley, David Swaim, Nick Swaim, Ronald Vaughan, Wendy Jolliff,
Jessica Vaughan, Dan Halpern, Evan Halpern; and five great-grandchildren, Logan
Dudley, Khloe Dykes, Abbey Dudley, Timothy Jolliff and Katherine Jolliff as
well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter
Connie Halpern, her husband, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Nov. 11 with services on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
officiated by Kenny Majors at the Kingman United Methodist Church. Burial will
be at Centennial Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Kingman United
Methodist Church or Hospice St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. – jlr
