Dorothy Ruby Van Pelt, 95, a resident of the waters of Covington for the past eight years, died there at 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2001. Born March 15, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Alva and Blanche (Covault) Taylor. Her marriage was to Ora L. VanPelt on July 25, 1925 in Danville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1977. Surviving, are: one daughter, Marjorie Glover of Covington; two sons, Donald (Juanita) VanPelt and James (Carolyn) VanPelt, both of Danville, Ill.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Cecil Taylor of Covington and Bertha Taylor of Champaign, Ill. She was also preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. Dorothy retired from the cafeteria of the Covington School Corporation after 25 years of service. She was a member of Benson Chapel United Methodist Church. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to service at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church, west of Covington. Services there on Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael Dillon and Paul Kent officiating. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington.
