Charles R. VanPelt, 63, Route 1, Covington, died at 2:45 a.m. Friday, Aug 1, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Danville. He was a patient for one week and had been ill three years. He was born March 19, 1923, in Warren County, the son of Charles and Ethel Wurtsbaugh VanPelt. He married Amelia Alvina Hoagland Aug. 12, 1945. She survives. He was a resident north of Coffing Brothers Orchard for 22 years. He was a member of VFW Post 2395, Covington, and 87th Infantry Association. He was employed at McCaman Construction in Danville until he retired due to ill health. He enjoyed hunting and reading western novels. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Mike VanPelt, Covington; a daughter, Mrs. Greg (Marilyn) Cunningham, Route 1, Bismarck, Ill.; three grandchildren, Adam Joshua and Jackie; three brothers, A.C. VanPelt, Centerville; Kenny VanPelt, Route 2, Williamsport, and Austin VanePelt, Route 2, Covington; a sister, Mrs. Leroy (Betty) Chambers, Collinsville, Ill.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Jack, three sisters and five brothers. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with the Rev. Grover Williams officiating. Burial was in West Lebanon Cemetery.
