ATTICA — Patricia Lou Ann “Patty" VanHook, 47, 3351 N. 850 E., Attica, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2006 at her residence on the family farm following a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 5, 1958 in Williamsport, the daughter of William and Barbara (Irvine) VanHook. She was a graduate of Fountain Central High School with the class of 1977. She had remained a lifetime resident. She had been employed as a cook for several fraternities and sororities at Purdue University. She also had cooked at Memorial Union before retiring due to ill health. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ in Wingate and had taught youth Sunday School for several years and had belonged to the Wingate American Legion Auxiliary. Kids enjoyed her as the “Candy Lady.” She enjoyed cooking and loved being involved with her family. Survivors, besides the parents, are: a sister, Sharon F. (Joseph) Dark, Crawfordsville; three brothers, Fred W. (Rhonda) VanHook, Lafayette, David R. (companion Kim Meyer) VanHook, Wingate, and Hugh B. (Tracy) VanHook, Lafayette; 13 nieces and nephews; eight great nieces and great nephews; aunts, Frances Beardsley and Nancy Hoskins, both of Wingate, Connie Chester, Lafayette, Merry Christine Voliva, Crawfordsville; and her cat, Isabella; and dog, Shelba. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday in Family and Friends Funeral Home, Wingate, with Pastor Gordon Nichols officiating. Burial was in Wheeler Cemetery, north of Wingate.
