WOODFORD TUNIN, son of Robert and Hannah Ratcliff Tunin, was born June 30, 1832 at York, Clark Co., Ill. He was married to Mary Jane Walton December 12, 1860, who departed this life March 22, 1896. To this union thirteen children were born, five of whom preceeded their father in death, namely, an infant son unnamed, Sylvester H., Lena E., Charles B., and Otho C. The surviving members of the family are Robert R., Ida E. Sloan, Ruth E. Musson, Kingman Ind., John H., and Anna E. Parnell of Scott, Oklahoma, Eli H. of Seattle, Wash., Alvan E., of Iantha, Missouri, and Albertus of Alberta, Canada.
The deceased was stricken with fatal illness ten weeks ago. He bore his sickness and intense suffering with remarkable patience and fortitude, his mind remaining clear until near the end.
His devoted children were ever attentive and faithful coming long distances to comfort and encourage their stricken parent. All the children were permitted to be with him during his illness except Mrs. Parnell, who was unable to visit him on account of illness.
Woodford Tunin was left an orphan in early boyhood in the pioneer days of this vicinity. He built for himself and companion a log cabin in the primeval forest and by their united effort, industry and frugality provided for themselves and offspring a comfortable competence. As his children arrived at maturity and left the parental home, they were provided with substantial assistance.
The subject of this sketch united with the Christian church at Pleasant Grove many years ago and lived a life of industry, honesty and integrity. He departed this life August 23, 1915, aged 82 years, 1 month and 23 days.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 Tuesday morning, Rev. J. M. Hargue officiating. Burial was made in the Harveysburg cemetery - thanks to S&E
