James Wallace Tuggle, 40, of 302 S H St, Tilton, a veteran of WWII, died of a heart attack about 8:30 p.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Hospital Hospital where he had been a surgical patient 13 days. He operated McAuley’s Grocery in Tilton. Mr. Tuggle was born in Veedersburg Feb 4, 1913 son of William H. and Veda Wallace Tuggle. He served in the 7th Corps Headquarters, 1st Army in WWII, spent three years in the European Theater and was discharged a sergent. He was a member of Elks Lodge 322, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Junior Chamber of Commerce and was past president of the Tilton Lions Club. Surviving are the wife, Helen Gorman Tuggle, whom he married Jan 10, 1942; a son, James Wallace II; two brothers, Edwin H and Gene F. Tuggle, both of Danville and five sisters, Miss Wilma Tuggle and Mrs. Helen Ligocki of Danville, Mrs. Louise Carter of Kingman, Mrs. Doris McBride of Hoopeston and Mrs. Lorraine DeBord of West Lebanon. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Funeral services were Monday in Danville with burial in St. Patrick’s cemetery. – kbz
