Oxford—Velma Toy, 69, 401 S. Michigan, Oxford, died at 3:45 p.m. Monday, May 22, 1989 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. She had been in ill health since April 28.
She was born March 7, 1920 in Pocahontas, Ark. She was married May 29, 1937 in Pocahontas to Ervin Toy, who survives.
She had resided in Oxford for the past 45 years. She attended Pocahontas High School. She had been employed at Better Coil and Transformer Co. in Goodland for 10 years, retiring in 1980.
Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Bill E., Attica, Donald R., Country Club Hill, Ill., and Gregory A., Carrollton, Texas; three daughters, Clara L. Hoaks, Oxford, Doretia S. Leuck, Fowler, And Aggie N. Debruicker, Fowler; five sisters, Veda Vandeveer, Templeton, Louise Tyler, Notia Giles and Virginia Bats, all of Pocahontas, and Mary Lee, Warrington, Mo.; one brother, Carl Stokes, Rockford, Ill.; a half brother, Clyde Tyler, Pocahontas; a half sister, Kathleen Crisp, Pocahontas; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one granddaughter, three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today in Hahn Funeral Home Chapel, Oxford, with Larry McMillan officiating. Burial will be in Pine Village Cemetery. – thanks to S
