John W. Tittle, age 83, 1002 Fifth St., a life resident of Covington and superintendent of Mt. Hope Cemetery for 22 years, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, at 6:30 p. m. Thursday, July 14, where he was taken in the Hegg ambulance. He had been ill two days and seriously ill a few hours. Mr. Tittle was born May 1, 1877 in Covington, the son of Jacob and Emma Tittle. He was married in 1901 to Bessie VanHook, who preceded him in death in 1953. He was married April 10, 1958 to Lurenia Wright of Danville, who survives. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Christian Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Wamsley of Indianapolis, and one brother, Lee, of Danville. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and a sister. The body was taken to the family residence Saturday afternoon where friends were received. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Hegg Funeral Home here. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Covington, officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Carl Auter, Tom Slattery, Guy Smith, Luther Brewer, Norman Dale Hughes and Francis Dewlen. --typed by Walt W
