ATTICA — Ruby Marie Parker Tipton, 81, formerly of Attica and Lafayette, died August 14, 2002 in Haverford, Pa. where she had been residing since March 1999. She was born July 3, 1921 in Lafayette. She married Gayle Eugene Tipton Nov. 26, 1942. He preceded in death in October 1998. She grew up in Petit and graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette. After her marriage they made their home in Lafayette, but moved to Attica in 1949. During the time that she lived in Attica, she was active in many organizations including: Tri Kappa and the United Methodist Church. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader and from 1964-1967, was President of the Tippecanoe Council of Girl Scouts (now Girl Scouts of Sycamore Council.) For several years she was a volunteer driver for the Fountain County Head Start program. She enrolled at Purdue University in 1968, focusing her studies on Child Development and Family Life. She graduated in 1974 and was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She then worked for 11 years as a social worker with the Fountain County Child Welfare Department. Retiring from her job in 1985, she moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area where she enjoyed the Florida sunshine. She worked as a volunteer for the Northwest Regional Hospital in Margate, Women in Distress (WID) of Ft. Lauderdale and served as an election worker at the polls. She was a life-long fan of the Chicago Cubs, a voracious reader and a lover of crossword puzzles. Ruby Road in the Tipton Hills subdivision in Attica is named after her. Survivors include: two daughters, Sharon (Michael) Denomme, Wayne, Pa. and Suzanne Ackermann, Kalona, Iowa; a son, David (Rhonda) Tipton, Indianapolis; a sister, Lolita Sperbeck, Lafayette; three grandchildren, Wendy Tipton, Matthew Taylor and Sterling Tipton; a great-grandchild, Nicholas Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. A gravesite service will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 3 in Swank Cemetery, Petit, with the Rev. G. Scott Pattison officiating. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sept. 3 in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with memorial service being conducted at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent in Ruby's name to her favorite charities: Working in New Directions (W.I.N.D.), 305 S.
