Editor's Note: These newspapers are reprinting this story from last week's page one with apologies to the family of Paul Thomas. This story, as originally prepared, was one of the last ones to be run on fully automated typesetting equipment late Wednesday at the company's central plant in Attica. Because of the latenessp the type had been set and printed before it was discovered that the automatic equipment had gone haywire, resulting in 68 errors appearing in this one, important story.,
Paul Thomas, President of the Veedersburg Town Board and owner of the Thomas Variety Store, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 25, at about 6:00 p.m., after a heart attack at his home, 109 East Third Street, in Veedersburg. He was 62 years of age. Mr. Thomas had been mowing his front lawn.
Paul Thomas was a graduate of Veedersburg High School, Indiana University and the University of Illinois. He served as the Principal of the Westville High School in Illinois from 1933 to 1951, and taught science there for three years prior that. He had attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and two-and one-half years before, financial difficulties forced him to leave school. He was at one time a professor of science at the University of Illinois.
He was born August 3, 1901 at Montmorenci, the son of Herschel and Rhoda Wilson Thomas. He married Helen Simmerman of Veedersburg Nov. 11, 1929, who survives.
Also surviving are a brother, Clarence of Tangier; four sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Milligan and Mrs. Belle Milligan, both of Tangier; Mrs. Ed (Lula) Nifklas of Covington; and Mrs. Bessie Cochran of San Francisco, Cal.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 27 at 2 p.m., at the Fishero Funeral Home with the Rev. August Stork officiating.
Many residents from all over Fountain County attended. Burial was in the Rockfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Marion 0verpeck, Keith Smith, Charles Wildman, Bob Janeway, Earl Potter, and Jack Mornout.
